Care News
Wales has more older people on a pro rata basis than elsewhere in the UK, 22% of its population is over the age of 60. and the number is increasing. In April, a post, Commissioner for Older People will come into being and Ruth Marks will be in the role.The role Ms Marks has taken on will include the brief that older people are to be included in decisions that affect them and their needs. Dawn Primarolo, Minister for Public Health has announced that 60,000 new doctors will be specifically trained in the next ten years to identify and treat people who are drinking too much. (Source: DOH)
From April 1st the new National Concessionary Bus Pass Scheme will entitle pass holders to free local bus travel anywhere in England. To qualify you must be aged 60 years or qualify because of a disability as defined in The Transport Act 2000. You will be able to travel between the hours of 9.30am and 11.00pm throughout the country but local concessions may start earlier. At weekends and on bank holidays free travel is available all day. The Pass is issued free of charge and you apply to your local Council.

Potential new clients have been visited this week in Wales, Dorset, Suffolk and Nottinghamshire.Clients in Suffolk have been visited for risk assessments and care plan updates.
Care Manager Alan Wilson attended a Reminiscence Therapy course.
Two new posts have commenced:
- One in East Sussex, An elderly lady suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. Wage £587.00pw Inc. Care Manager Nick Turrell.
- The second one in Surrey is a lady in her seventies with Parkinson’s disease. Wage £576.00pw Inc.
A Personal Injury report has been commissioned from solicitors in Cambridgeshire.

"In order to keep myself as safe and independent as is possible in my own home I have been given and purchased several pieces of equipment and smaller domestic aids. Either I have been given professional advice or have taken advice from friends and family. However, no one I have spoken to has heard of a bedside mat that might save me from a broken bone should I fall out of bed or stumble when I get up in the morning, have you?"
