Care News
The CRB can now access information held by the Ministry of Defence Police including both military and civilian. The CRB is now able to search over 55 million pieces of non-conviction information held by various data sources.Carers UK which represents the UK’s six million carers have asked the Government to compensate carers affected by the abolition of the 10p tax rate.
Losers from the tax change include people earning between £5,435 and £19,355 per annum. Many carers work in part time jobs or in jobs that are low paid in order that they can manage their caring responsibilities. Carers who take part time jobs whilst caring for a loved one are not eligible for Working Tax Credits unless they work for more than 30 hours a week.
Scotland – Lord Sutherland’s independent review of free personal and nursing care in Scotland has stated that the UK Government was wrong to remove Attendance Allowance resources from the Scottish budget following the free personal and nursing care introduction.

Interesting Information
Almost 5,000 patients have suffered injuries from falls while being looked after in NHS Lothian hospitals and surgeries in just two years. Figures released under Freedom of Information legislation, show 12,000 patients fell between April 2005 and March 2007, although not all were hurt.There were no deaths from meningitis C amongst under 19 year olds in England last year. Before routine immunisation was introduced in 1999 up to 78 children a year were killed by the infection.
Question asked of Able Community Care in May 2007:
"I am in my late fifties and I have a disabled daughter. I have always had my own car but now a friend has told me that I may be able to have a new car for my daughter in her name that I can drive. If this is true it would be very good news for us as my car is old and expensive to maintain yet we need it to get out and about both on a daily living basis and when I take her to her social activities. Where do I apply?"
Answer – Your friend was almost certainly talking about the Motability Scheme which enables people who are disabled to obtain a vehicle, which can be a car, a powered wheelchair or a scooter. Most local new car dealers are aware of the Scheme and you could make enquiries there. However, there has just been a new DVD released all about the Motability Scheme and you may like to watch this before you make further enquiries.
