Soaring personal injury claims look set to push up motor insurers claims by 28% during the coming five years. The pay out in claims looks set to jump from £8.5 billion in 2007 to £10.9 billion by 2012 according to market analyst Datamonitor. The main factor driving the rise is the increased cost of personal injury claims resulting from road traffic accidents.

Salford has launched a scheme which gives people the right to die in the event of a medical emergency. People can complete an “advance decision to refuse treatment” card instructing doctors not to treat them should the worst happen. Any person wishing to sign up has to make a detailed statement advising what treatment they are not prepared to receive. The statement will be kept by a family member or GP.

Urgent cancellations of registration of adult care services in 2004/5 was five residential care homes. In 2005/6 one nursing home and one homecare agency had their registrations cancelled. In 2006/7 3 residential care homes had their registrations cancelled urgently.

Care Manager Nick Turrell has been in Jersey for a potential client visit and meeting with existing clients.Manual Handling training sessions have taken place in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.

Answers to further questions from our annual customer satisfaction survey:Question 6:
"Are you happy to contact your Care Manager or other Senior Management if you wish to make changes to your care plan or if you have a problem?"
Apart from one client who could not communicate, one client who felt the question was not applicable, one client referred to their telephone calls not always being returned and one client who said “no” 100% of our clients said “yes”.
Question 7:
Our clients gave us their answer as to whether they would like their carer advice notes sent by post or email. The majority of our clients prefer to have their advice notes by mail but an increasing number are requesting that they receive their details of the next carer who is coming via email.
A survey published by Help The Aged has found that one in five - more than 10 million people - have lied about their age. Another 10 million admit they've been tempted to.
There is a shortage of over 10000 foster carers in the UK.
