Care NewsAccording to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust 163,000 new cases of dementia occur in England and Wales each year. As a result they have welcomed government plans to train all NHS GPs in England to spot the early symptoms of dementia. The Trust eagerly awaits the details of the practical aspects which will make the plans a reality. Two million people who have a disability use the Blue Badge Scheme which allows specialised parking facilities for people with disabilities. The permit, currently costing £2.00, looks like it will rise in cost under the government's Blue Badge Strategy for England. The government says that the current charges do not cover the administration costs involved with the current scheme and therefore, the rise, which will be left to individual councils, could be different depending on where an application for the Blue Badge is made. Shadow Disability Minister Mark Harper has said that the government itself had predicted the cost could rise to more than £20.
