The CRB has launched its first electronic application channel which will make all services available faster, there are no CRB forms to complete and should improve data quality and accuracy.

The downside however is that the e-Bulk service is aimed at larger volume customers who submit more than 3000 checks per year.

Most Councils in England have social work posts unfilled. The total in England is 1 in 9 social worker posts vacant. The figures referring to the date of 31st January 2009 is 10.95% overall which in real terms is 8,317 vacant posts. The highest number of vacancies is in London, 18.6%, and in particular in the Borough of Lambeth where the figure is 33.7%.

The area in which there are the fewest vacancies is the North East where the figure is 6.5%. Many of the vacancies are filled by temporary staff, for example temporary and agency staff made up 30% of Haringey Council social work teams.

New Government statistics now show that 81% of home care is now provided by the independent and voluntary sectors.

Mandy Gulatar our Manager in the South West has had a meeting with Cornwall Council Social Services Dept.

Chris Cook is attending a Self Directed Support Day at West Sussex County Council.

Annually we support varying charities and this year we are supporting a local charity MAP (Mancroft Advice Project)which offers information, advice, support and counselling for people between the ages of 11 and 25 years. The “drop in centre” in Norwich has approx. 40 visitors per day and try to help with anything from helping a young person to write a CV, to access job training posts, homelessness, health issues, etc. They are currently seeking old mobile phones with chargers in order that they can give these to some young people in order that they have a method to get in touch and support where necessary.

This week we sadly lost a client who had been with us for just over two months. Una had been diagnosed with MND and wished to live at home rather than in hospital. With the support of her local Health team and an Able Carer she was able to achieve her wish. Her last day was spent with friends and family.

Interesting Information / Statistics

The average human has as much hair as the hairy primates but it is so short and fine we simply do not “look” the same.

An average human head has approx. 100,000 strands of hair, and each ordinary hair has a lifespan of about 3 years. Eyelashes only live about 150 days.
