The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care has, after the Panorama programme, sent a letter to home care providers.

It advises that in the coming year a number of methods will be used to drive up care standards and to be tough on poor practice.

These methods include:

  • Short notice and unannounced inspections.
  • An on-going increase in focus on the effectiveness of service user and carer participation.
  • Shadowing of care workers.
  • Case tracking of the service users experiences .i.e. through inspection of care plans, observing practice and speaking with service users, their carers and care at home service staff.
In addition they will be looking at;
  • Reviewing recruitment practices
  • Meaningful activity in care at home services where activity is part of the service in place.

Question of the Week
"I wish to purchase a shampoo which means I do not have to wash my hair in water. (I am disabled and cannot manage washing my hair on my own) I have heard of one which is not like the old dry powder shampoos of old but cannot remember the name of it. Can you help?"

Answer : I think you may mean a shampoo called "No Rinse Waterless Shampoo" which advertises itself by promising "completely clean hair without water or rinsing". The shampoo is applied to the hair, lathered up and then towel dried.

The smallest size is 56ml and is £1.95. plus p&p. To order telephone 0844 20 90 888
