The "opt out" of the regulatory 48 hour week which the UK has enjoyed for several years is due to remain in place. Brussels failed to meet with agreement as the UK and several other member states opposed any change.
Further action may be taken to remove the "opt out" but this requires new legislative proposals and currently none have been announced.
Registration of home care workers : It has been announced finally that registration will go ahead in 2010 but on a voluntary basis to begin with.
The registration initially will only cover home care workers and not residential care workers or personal assistants.
180,000 nurses are due to retire in the next 10 years.

Answer : No they will not stop your AA and you do not have to tell anyone if you are abroad as a temporary measure. You can usually carry on claiming your AA for 26 weeks. (If you are abroad for medical treatment or for illness or disability this time period can possibly be extended).
