Care NewsIt is estimated that 10% of care workers are migrant workers. Research by the COMPAS unit at Oxford University found that migrant workers had a good work ethic but there were concerns about language and cultural factors. Migrant workers are relied on to work in the care sector and it is estimated that the current figure of 126,000 currently working the number will rise to 195,000 in 2030. Following on from the problems experienced by our Registered Manager and the problems associated with her Mother and entry into a care home for a few weeks, her Mother has been transferred to a further care home. No care plan or details of next of kin went with her. The Sue Ryder Care charity was formed 54 years ago but for the last ten years they have been providing health and care in people's homes. Celebrating its tenth anniversary it advises that it now provides 1.4 million home visits and more than 650,000 hours per year. The Aged Care Channel has just been launched which is a subscription television channel for care homes. The station provides 18 training programmes during the course of a year.
