New research carried out by the MS Society has given a realistic estimate of the number of people suffering with MS in the UK.
The results show that there are likely to be around 100,000 people with MS, which is an increase in numbers of around 20% from the previous estimate.
The figures are needed in order that appropriate health and social care can be improved and planned for the future.
Headway has a petition running to call for a law to make it compulsory for children under 16 years of age to wear helmets while cycling. According to the Dept. of Transport the number of cyclists killed and seriously injured on UK roads has increased 11% in the last three years and children account for a disproportionate number of the victims. In Australia, USA and Canada it is compulsory for children to wear helmets and it has been shown that the number of children killed or seriously injured has been reduced.

Information packs are being sent out to more than 18,000 District Nurses across the UK to help promote Marie Curie Cancer Care's extended nursing services.
The pack is designed to let District Nurses know about the new services and encourages them to contact their Marie Curie Nursing Services Manager to see which services are available in their area.
The pack includes a new leaflet which outlines the full range of services now available, contact details for all the charity's Nursing Service Managers (NSMs) and a letter from Director of Nursing and Patient Services, Susan Munroe.
Catherine Salmon, Marketing Manager for Caring Services said: "We not only want District Nurses to know about our new services. We are also asking them to inform their managers and anyone involved in end of life care about the services - and how extending them in their areas will make a huge difference to patients and families."

Question of the Week
"My Father has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and has sent me some leaflets about the illness. (I live outside the UK). However, I do not find these leaflets go into too much details and I would like further information. I do not have access to the internet which may make it more difficult. Any ideas for further reading?"

In this DVD, some of the UK's top specialists answer common questions and concerns about Parkinson's. Also, people with Parkinson's talk candidly about how the condition has affected their lives; and optimistically about the future.
The PDS would like this DVD to be given to each and every person diagnosed with Parkinson's as soon as is possible after diagnosis.
