The Independent Living Fund has launched a new magazine for over 21,000 disabled people as part of its 21st anniversary celebrations.
The new magazine, 'living - for independent people', (available online here: http://www.ilf.org.uk/cms_media/files/14856_ilf_celebrating21_accessible.pdf) has been specially designed to be a practical and interesting lifestyle/feature-based publication containing ILF news, information, inspiring user stories and practical advice.
The proposed registration of home care workers has been postponed the General Social Care Council has announced. With the implementation of the Vetting and Barring Scheme this month the need for registration of home care workers and indeed those in the wider care field has reduced.
Registration was due to begin in April 2007 which did not happen and the next date for implementation was to be from 2010 onwards.
In the office we regularly get phone calls from training providers anxious to tell us in a couple of minutes what training they can provide but with the emphasis many times on the premise that we can get it funded for you, so what have you to lose. These callers, when asked, often do not have any documentation that can be sent in the post to you in order for you to take time and, look at what they are offering.
Skills for Care have now launched an interactive online funding guide that should be of help to anyone looking at training issues and wanting to know what can be found by the way of training and what funding can be attached. The online guide pulls together more than 50 regional and national funding sources and gives information on specific areas of interest, qualifications, material, resources, etc. Go to: http://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/funding for further information.

MH training has taken place in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Hertfordshire.
A new client has commenced cover in Berkshire for a frail, older lady. Care Manager is Jackie on 01603 281914. Weekly wage is £541.pw inc.
Interesting Information / Statistics
Census - There were 408,200 qualified nurses employed by the NHS in September 2008.Personal injury claims for 2007/8 increased by nearly 5% mainly the result of motor related accidents.
Question of the Week
"I am a disabled man and I would like to try a parachute jump, is this possible?"
Answer : Tandem parachuting enables people with a wide range of disabilities to experience the sport, but this is dependent on the severity of the disability.
In order to find out if you would be able to participate, contact your nearest parachute club and speak to the chief instructor and discuss your individual situation with them.
