The majority of people with dementia leave hospital in a worse state than when they went in and a third go on to a care home, unable to return home, according to new research from the Alzheimer's Society.
The research, involving 2,400 people connected with dementia care, reveals that people with dementia are staying longer in hospital than other patients and often receive less than adequate care.
The Alzheimer's Society is calling for all hospitals to reduce the average length of stay for a person with dementia by at least a week. The charity is also supporting calls from nurses to be equipped with the right training and tools to do the job.

The free personal care bill (England) announced in the latter part of this year is being criticised by the Conservatives on the grounds that :
- It has been under costed and under funded.
- The evidence from Scotland, when they introduce free personal care system, had many more people claiming it than had been anticipated.

This week we received a request to send five copies of our bi-monthly Gazette to Pakistan. Makes the world feel a smaller place!Christmas and New Year is no different from the rest of the year as we still have to cover all our clients over this festive period. We would therefore like to thank all the live-in carers who work away from home over this period, who have put up with travel disruption in the current cold spell of weather and been cheerful in difficult circumstances.
The office maintains a 24 hour on call service over the entire Christmas and New Year periods as usual.

Question of the Week"What is the criteria for claiming a Cold Weather Payment and how much is it? (I do receive Pension Credit)."
Answer : You may be eligible for a Cold Weather Payment if you receive Pension Credit, Income Support or an income related Employment and Support allowance.
If the weather where you live is recorded as, or forcast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below on seven consecutive days during the period from 1st November to 31st March. The information about the temperatures come from specified meteorological Office weather stations. To find out if your are eligible you can use the post code check to see if payments are being made in your location:
