The new framework has been developed after consultation with professional bodies, voluntary bodies, patient user groups, etc. The idea is to make the process of who can claim funding for continuous care easier and fairer to access.Currently, the system has been described as a post code lottery with some people able to access the funding in parts of the country whilst other people living elsewhere have found it difficult or impossible. The new framework should also speed up the process. The new framework will come into being from October this year. The cost for the first year is expected to be in the area of £220m.
