The acquisition of Delam Care Ltd means that CareTech now operate 78 residential care homes ( 536 residential care places) along with 2 day centres ( 55 day places).Liam Byrne, Minister for Care Services has left the Dept. of Health and gone to the Home Office. His replacement is Ivan Lewis who has been an Economic Secretary at the Treasury since May 2005. Mr Lewis is the MP for Bury South and had a background in the voluntary sector before his election in 1997. He is aged 39. Care Home Fees have increased by more than 50% over the last five years. Average cost of care home fees in 2000/2001 was £13,936. For the period 2005/2006 it had risen to £21,112. Around 40% of residents receive no help with the cost (Help the Aged information) CERETAS formerly BADCO, is a membership organisation for people working in home care. On Wednesday, 7th June they are holding their Annual Telecare Conference at The Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London. Telecare or Assistive Technology is already making significant in roads into the care market and is a prominent feature in the Government White Paper concerning future homecare provision. In-House NewsPotential carer applications in the last fortnight have come from people who have the following qualifications: 12 with NVQ qualifications in care, 1 with a Social Care qualification and from 3 people with nursing qualifications. The majority will be suffering from Alzheimers Disease (55%), Vascular dementia (20%), or dementia with Lewy bodies (15%). Recent events in the storyline of Coronation Street were featured in a GMTV two day event to raise the awareness of dementia.
