Care News

European Care Group is one of the UK's largest residential care groups and has now purchased five more care homes in the west of Scotland. The deal was £12m.

This London based firm now has in excess of 2500 care beds in the UK.

A third of older people needing intensive daily help in England now receive this in their own homes rather than in residential care. (Medical news Today)

Devon County Council is asking the Government to take urgent action to prevent a national, nursing home crisis. Devon is predicting a social services overspend of approx. £2m. Recent nursing home closures in Devon mean that the availability of beds is now the lowest in the South West. Recent homes to close have been in Plymouth and Torquay.

Financial Interest

The Franchise of Caremark is a recent care franchise looking for prospects wishing to secure territories in the estimated £12b - £17b per year domiciliary care market. The cost of a Franchise Package Price is £29,500 + Vat + working capital.

In-House News

Sue Vincent
For the last nine years Sue has cared for one of our clients who has MS. In order to benefit his local branch of the MS Society, Sue is taking a break from work to trek around the Lake District. Whilst her client is in Respite, Sue will start her walk from Barrow and hopes to complete the 50 mile walk over hilly terrain in five days. If you would like to support Sue in her walk please send us a donation and we will pass it on to her for the MS Society.

In the last fortnight we have accepted applications from 20 prospective carers either having NVQ 2 or the Scottish equivalent.

Visits to potential clients have taken place in Surrey, Lancashire, Wales and Cheshire. New Respite post completed in Middlesex.

Approx. 20 potential carers are being interviewed in London today and tomorrow.

Interesting Statistics

The Government said last year that more than 17 million meals were thrown away untouched in Britain’s hospitals every year - an increase of almost 50% since 2002. (The Times)

The average cost of meals per day in hospital is approximately £2.50 per patient.

The number of hospital beds has fallen: In 1984 there were 211,617 beds but in 2004 the number reduced to 145,218. However, the number of admissions where a patient needed to stay overnight has increased by 57% over the same period.

We hope you have enjoyed reading this and "see you next week".

Best Wishes,
Angela Gifford, Proprietor
