Care News

The Nursing Homes Fees Agency is reporting that it is concerned at the number of calls being received from families of older people in care homes being wrongly denied the Attendance Allowance.

If you are living in a care home and are self funding you can claim and receive Attendance Allowance. Self funding also includes the situation where people enter into a deferred loan arrangement whereby the loan is repaid eventually from the proceeds of the sale of their home. Not claiming the allowance can mean losing up to approx. £3,200.00 per year.

Free Personal Care in Scotland
Holyrood’s Health Committee has found that almost 5000 pensioners are on the waiting list for free, personal care across Scotland. Reasons given by Scottish local authorities is lack of funding available.
