The Department of Health is undertaking a consultation to clarify policy on patient confidentiality and disclosure of information on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV.The outcome will benefit those who use the services in that they will know what to expect.
This will also take into account representations to the D of H from sexual health professionals seeking clarification of the circumstances when they may need to disclose confidential information, including about a patients HIV status, both with and without the patient's consent.
This is important in the provision of effective care for a person, as without full knowledge of a person’s health conditions, appropriate care can be jeopardised.
Care agencies are familiar with situations where, full health conditions are not disclosed, due to patient confidentiality. This has caused problems.

The Association of Charity Officers is the national umbrella body for benevolent charities, that is charities who provide aid and advice to individuals in need.

The help they offer takes many forms - financial grants, debt counselling, sheltered housing, residential accommodation or nursing home care, advice about statutory benefits, special equipment, counselling, help or care at home... In fact help in just about any imaginable and imaginative way. Charities make sure that their help does not affect people's statutory benefits.
