Care News
The UK has an "opt out" from the EU’s 48 hour working week. The UK, in line with a few other EU countries wish to keep this arrangement in place.However, the time off arrangements around this "opt out" have been re-enforced by European judges who are looking at the issue of the maximum working week and rest breaks for EU citizens.
With reference to time off, the DTI guidelines advise employers to ensure that workers can take their rest breaks but the European judges state that this is not the same as saying that UK workers do get the breaks they are entitled to under the legislation of The Working Time Directive.
Government lawyers are assessing the implications of this statement from the European judges and deciding if any action needs to be taken for further compliance.
Many employers and business organisations have regarded the DTI's advice as a common sense approach and wish this status quo approach to be continued.
Last month the CRB issued its 10 millionth Disclosure. The actual date this occurred was 4th August.

Potential clients have been visited in London, Gloucestershire, South Wales and Suffolk.Scotland - Susan Lamb, our Scottish Development Manager is visiting Inverness and Glasgow this week.
A new post has been started in Gloucestershire for a young female with CP. Salary £611.00 inc. Care Manager Chris Cook.
One of our clients has successfully completed the BTEC First Level Diploma in ICT. Part of the modular course required a study of two companies with different organisational structures. One of the companies chosen by our client to study was ourselves, Able Community Care. The study of the two companies merited a distinction for the module.
Our client is now studying for the BTEC National Diploma, a two year course, and we wish her well.
During October and November we are offering an open invitation to people interested in care to come to our office to meet the staff, to find out about the services we offer, how the different sectors of the company work to provide a complete care solution and to answer any questions people may like to ask.

Interesting Information
Attendance Allowance - No upper age limit but if you are under the age of 65 years, application is for the Disability Living Allowance.
Current Attendance Allowance rates are:
- Lower rate - £41.65 per week (needing help either day or night).
- Higher rate - £62.25 per week (needing help both night and day)
There is also the qualifying rule that a person must normally have been living in the UK for at least 26 weeks out of the last 52 weeks.
