Interesting Information

Community Care magazine recently conducted a survey in connection with the star rating system for care homes which comes into force next year. The survey was based on responses from 93 care home providers. Some of the results were as follows:
  • 52% thought it would lead to the closure of (particularly small) care homes.

  • 55% thought star ratings would lack credibility.

  • 60% thought the star ratings would boost standards.

  • 66% did not think that the ratings would be awarded fairly and consistently.

  • 70% thought it would help individuals decide which home to choose.

  • 70% thought it would fail to give the full picture.

  • 80% thought it would lead to higher costs.

  • 81% it would influence how councils and others commissioned services.

  • 83% thought it would make providers chase ratings.
