Care News
Approx. 3.3.million workers in the UK work more than 48 hours a week. Britain secured the "opt out" to allow British citizens to continue to work more than 48 hours a week if they so wished. Many of the EU countries are opposed to this, mainly on the grounds that workers could feel pressurised into working longer hours or forced to do so by unscrupulous employers. Talks again are taking place this week in an attempt to stop Britain having this "opt out". Currently, however at the time of writing this Newsflash, the general outcome of the talks this week are expected to leave Britain with its "opt out".The reason being is the difference between member organisations. France and Spain for example oppose the arrangement that Britain has whilst some of the newer members from eastern Europe support our arrangement.
It is expected that the wide differences of opinion will mean that an agreement cannot be reached during these discussions.
The Blue Badge
This gives disabled people the right to park in many places where able bodied people cannot. However, this facility is misused, many are stolen for fraudulent use and many are counterfeit.
Now police officers, traffic wardens or local authority people such as parking attendants have the right to inspect that the badge is being used by the person entitled to do so.

An osteoarthritis simulation suit has been invented which will help care professionals to find out how a person with the disability actually lives. The suit has been developed with the support of Arthritis Care and will be available at health conferences, etc for care professionals to try on. In March 2006 there were 256,900 people being supported permanently or temporarily in residential care. Nine out of ten of the residents were living in independently run care homes.
