1980
Began Able Domestic Employment Agency in partnership. Devised a continuous, long term, live in Housekeeper/Carer scheme for people with high dependency needs.

1989
Founder member of the UKHCA - Continuous Executive Member for 11 years.

1990
Partnership dissolved. Angela Gifford became a sole trader of Able Community Care.

Recognised as an Expert Witness in the costing of care services by The Law Society.

Formation of Able Personal Litigation Services

1999
Elected Vice-Chairman of The United Kingdom Home Care Association.

2000
Mrs Gifford received Approved/Accredited status with many Councils and at this time had in excess of fifty Local Authority contracts for the provision of care services.

2004
Registered and inspected for the provision of care services to adults by: Commission for Social Care Inspection (England and Wales) and The Scottish Care Commission.

2009
Registered and inspected for the provision of care services to adults by: The Care Quality Commission.

Since 1990, Able Community Care has provided in excess of 45 million hours of care in peoples homes. Clients throughout mainland United Kingdom and The Channel Islands.

Relevant Experience

In 1980 Angela Gifford formed Able Domestic Employment Agency. Her previous experience of providing care was in a personal capacity.

Able Domestic Employment Agency's objective was to provide long term care at home as an alternative to residential care for people with high dependency needs of any age group and background.

In 1981 the first long term, live-in care scheme began and the cover was provided without a break in service for 4 years until the person concerned died.

Since 1981 care has been provided throughout the United Kingdom for people who wish to remain in their own homes. Currently Able Community Care provides approximately two million hours of care each year.

Personal assessment, evaluating cost, care monitoring, quality of service monitoring, risk assessment and reviews are all part of the care package.

Mrs Gifford has extensive knowledge and hands on experience of Health and Safety Legislation, the separation of care and nursing tasks, working with other bodies both statutory and independent, working within Local Authority specifications and giving advice regarding funding. Her experience also encompasses all aspect of recruitment and status of carers and understanding of employment legislation.

In 1993, with the advent of "care in the community" Able was given Approved Provider status with over fifty local authorities and began providing long term care for mainly younger adults with serious health problems, e.g. spinal injury, head injury, MS, Cerebral Palsy, etc. (Since 2003, all care provided by Able Community Care has been under the remit of the Commission for Social Care Inspection initially and subsequently the Care Quality Commission.)

A Founder Member of the United Kingdom Homecare Association she was Vice Chair for many years and sat on the Executive Committee for eleven years.

An Expert Witness since 1990.
