Convalescent Care At Home

Convalescing after an operation usually means that a person has a period where convalescent care and support is provided whilst the patient gets stronger until they are ready to resume their normal life.

In the 1950's and 1960's it was a common expectation that after major surgery or a serious health problem that a period of convalescence would be offer in a convalescent home quite often near the sea.

The number of convalescent homes has declined over the years and the majority of people are now discharged and return home from the hospital where appropriate care in the community is arranged for a period after discharge.

Sometimes the care that needs to be arranged is difficult to organise and this is especially true in very rural and remote areas. This may mean that a patient has to stay in hospital for a longer period or moved to another hospital to await discharge.

Most people wish to get back to their home as soon as is possible and one service that can be arranged is to have a live-in convalescent carer for anything from a week to several weeks thereby allowing a person to regain their strength in the style of the old convalescent home, only this time, it is in a person's own home. One to one care until recovery is complete.

Able Community Care can provide live–in convalescent care throughout England, Scotland Wales and the Channel Islands.
