Live-in home care in Devon for elderly people is a viable option which should also be considered if you're thinking of looking into residential homes for the elderly in Devon.

In size, Devon is the third largest English County and has a population of 1.1 million people.

Many people retire to Devon and choose to live in some of the delightful areas close to the sea. The result is that the oldest people pro rata the overall population in Devon can currently be found in towns such as Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Seaton.

Many other retired people live throughout Devon, many in older houses, many in rural areas with poor transport, in isolated areas without nearby shops and amenities.

As a result many schemes are in place in Devon to enable older people to have a say in local affairs, receive practical help and have contact points for information and advice relative to living in a rural county.

The voluntary and charity sectors in many towns and villages are in place to help and you can make contact with them by contacting organisations such as Social Services for Older People, Age Concern or just looking in your local Yellow Pages under Social Service and Welfare organisations.

Devon has just under 500 care homes, with Plymouth and the towns of Torbay and Teignbridge having the highest number.

Many people reach a stage in life when the domestic work of running their home seems arduous, a little help is needed with having a bath and other areas of personal care and the feelings of loneliness are increasing and the conclusion is reached that moving into a residential care home is the next step.

This is not so, there is a choice. For almost 30 years Able Community Care has been offering an alternative to leaving your own home. A live-in carer scheme, whereby, support in the home, on a one to one basis, enables a person to remain living in their own environment and community.

Thousands of people have benefited from the service Able Community Care provides and below please find some recent comments from our Devon clients or their families during 2009.

  • "I am pleased with the live-in carer idea. The recent snow illustrated the problems I would have had without someone living here."
  • "My carer is unobtrusive, competent and obliging."
  • "I like just knowing that there is company and care 24 hours a day. The carers have been reliable and caring and we have been very impressed with your company."
