It is expected that the number of people over the age of 65 years in Hampshire will continue to rise and this is also true for the number of people over the age of 85 years. In 2008 there were approximately 31,200 people over the age of 85 by 2025 the number is estimated to be 52,000.

Hampshire County Council has to help its older population remain as active and independent as possible. It has set up The Older People's Welfare Team to develop more older person's activities in Hampshire. Partnerships with organisations such as the Red Cross Hampshire and Age Concern Hampshire will provide a range of services and activities for people from the age of 65 upwards.

A freephone helpline on 0800 032 3456 which operates between the hours of 9.00am and 11.00pm daily will provide older people with information and a friendly voice at the end of the phone to help. People suffering from bereavement can talk to someone and there is also a service whereby further contact via the telephone can be made to introduce older people who may have similar interests, are in similar situations or would just like a "telephone friend".

Many elderly people in Hampshire will wish to spend the rest of their lives in their own home. If the time comes when an elderly person requires a high level of care to remain in their own home, they may consider that moving into a residential care home is the only answer.

However, there is an alternative; Able Community Care has been providing live-in care schemes in Hampshire for almost thirty years. Many people have enjoyed having a regular rota of live-in home care staff, changing on a fortnightly basis, helping them to retain independence in their own home.

People like Richard who told us in 2009 that he enjoys having someone stay 24 hours around the clock providing for his care needs according to the Care Plan.

Able Community Care's live-in carers provide domestic, personal and social care within your own home. For further information or for an informal discussion call our Hampshire Care Manager, Chris Cook, on 02392 838708 who will be happy to help.
