The Multiple Sclerosis Society has eight local branches that are supporting people with MS in Essex.

In addition to support, each branch will have a range of social activities; will where possible have volunteer transport in order for people to access medical appointments, respite care and to attend the social functions that are arranged.

The location of these branches can be found at the MS website at: http://www.mssociety.org.uk

In addition to the local branches, a local charity CHARMS (Charity Action for Relief of Multiple Sclerosis) based in Chelmsford offers Hyperbaric Oxygenation Therapy (HBOT), Aromatherapy, Chiropody, Massage, OT, Reflexology, Reiki and Shiatsu. Their website at: http://www.charms.fsnet.co.uk will give further information.

Sometimes it is difficult for people with MS to remain living in their own home without care from either the statutory, voluntary or independent sectors.

Able Community Care provides long term live-in care packages to people who have MS and our services are available throughout Essex. Live-in care staff can help with your domestic care, your personal care and enable you to have as independent lifestyle as is possible.

There have been many household names who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis including the following:

  • Wayne Dobson, Magician
  • Jacqueline du Pre, Cellist
  • William Hartnell, Actor - Dr. Who
  • Alan Osmond, Singer with The Osmonds and
  • Richard Pryor, Actor
The following are comments from people who have been diagnosed with MS and whom are in receipt of a live-in care scheme from us:
  • "I'm happy to be in my own home."
  • "I have a great team of carers working and looking after me. I am more than happy."
  • "I like the service because it's regular, consistent and good."

This is an Able Community Care Information Page.
