Multiple Sclerosis affects approximately 100,000 people in the UK (2009 survey) and the incidence of MS appears to be that it is three times more prevalent in women than in men.

MS is not an inherited disease but family members do have a slightly higher risk of developing MS. MS is not a fatal condition nor is it infectious or contagious.

Able Community Care can provide live-in care packages for people with Multiple Sclerosis living in Lincolnshire who would like to remain living in their own homes rather than moving into a residential care home setting.

Live in care staff working with people who have MS can get involved in the activities around Lincolnshire that provide social activities and specialist care for people with MS. Information about social events can be obtained from any of the following MS branches:

  • Skegness and District Society – Telephone 01754 820 700. Louth and District branch which offers Lunches on the first Tuesday in each month at the Salvation Army Hall, Church Street, Louth. Telephone

  • Lincoln and District branch have a social evening on 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at the MS Therapy Centre, 50 Outer Circle Drive, Lincoln LN2 4JH. Telephone 01522 882 262. The Branch also has two fully accessible mini-buses that are used for a number of social events. In the summer a series of day excursions to various places are offered and in the winter to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

  • Grantham branch sends its member a regular Newsletter and holds regular informal get togethers. The branch also offers fortnightly seated exercise classes. Telephone 01476 593 915.
The Lincolnshire MS Therapy Centre offers High Dosage Oxygen Therapy (HDOT) and other alternative therapies to those who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis. The Centre is also a Drop-in centre for those sufferers and their carers. Location is: 50 Outer Circle Drive, St Giles, LINCOLN. Telephone 01522 543333 for further information.

In Lincolnshire there are MS Specialist Nurses and further details about the location of this service can be found by calling your local branch.

Here are some comments from clients with MS about the care provision of live-in care packages from Able Community Care:

  • "I like the way all my needs are met."
  • "Carers are looking after me, cooking, assisting me with personal care and making sure I get the best that I deserve."
  • "Incredible!!"
