Approximately 100,000 people in the United Kingdom have been diagnosed with MS and the number of people in Scotland with the disease is estimated to be in the region of 10,500 people.

Support groups for MS in Scotland provide information, contact, drop in centres and differing social events throughout the country.

Support for Multiple Sclerosis in Scotland can be found via the numerous branches of the MS Society across the country from the Orkney Islands down to the Border region. To find details of the branch nearest to you, visit the MS Scotland website at: http://www.mssocietyscotland.org.uk.

Members of any MS Society branch can receive the bi-monthly magazine, MS Connect, which has the latest MS news, details of events around Scotland, features, personal stories, etc. The magazine can also be downloaded via the internet. Membership is currently £5.00 per annum.

Other publications are available via the website and can be downloaded via the internet.

In rural communities or where contact with other people is difficult, the MS Society has chat forums where people can link up with each other via the internet, reducing the isolation sometimes associated with disability. Visit the website for details of how to join in.

Able Community Care provides care to many people suffering with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis. We usually begin to provide our live-in care scheme when a person begins to think that they will have to move into a residential home setting but would prefer to remain living in their own home.

Live-in care staff enable people to remain in their own home by providing domestic care, personal care and helping a person to maintain social aspects to their lives. Many of our care staff join in with the social events of the MS Society throughout the UK when they accompany the person they are caring for.

The following comments are from people with MS whom Able Community Care is currently providing a live-in care service for:

  • "The service received allow me to stay in my own home."
  • "At this moment we are very pleased with the carers being provided. They are very good with my wife's needs."
  • "I like the continual 24 hour service."

This is an Able Community Care Information Page.
